No building is complete without lighting. In recent years, heat-resistant LED strip for baths has become increasingly used.

Some people think that building a bath is very easy. But in fact, this is a complex process that requires certain knowledge. With the wrong approach to construction and equipment, the bathhouse will no longer be as comfortable as it was intended, and it will not be possible to relax in it with the highest quality.

LED strip in the bath makes the interior more spectacular

Visiting the steam room is difficult to compare with other types of recreation. This is not only a very pleasant, but also a useful procedure. Nowadays, rest in the bath is very popular, so many people try to put these structures on their suburban areas. Even if the cottage has all the amenities, the bath will not be superfluous. Only there you can get relax and relieve the load of worries.

But in order to create a comfortable environment in the bath, you need to try hard. Today, many interesting and easy solutions are used. A huge role is played by the design of the room, where it is very important to pay attention to lighting.

The use of LED strip in the bath not only creates interesting lighting effects, but also increases its illumination.

When choosing lighting fixtures for a bath, you need to be extremely careful. This is important, as high humidity and constant temperature changes can lead to a short circuit and failure of the lighting. Therefore, you should be as careful as possible in this matter and choose only those elements that are suitable for rooms with high humidity.

The advantage of the LED strip is that it is not afraid of moisture.

One of the modern, but very convenient solutions is to use an LED strip in the bath. Nowadays, such lighting devices are used in various areas, but they are ideal for a bath. The thing is that the tape is absolutely not afraid of water and is easy to install. The result is a beautiful design of any premises from the dressing room to the steam room.

Features of lighting in the bath

Premises of this type are often built without windows. This is due to the need to restrain certain temperatures indoors. High-quality lighting in the bath must be mandatory in all rooms, since there are no natural light sources here.

The wiring in the bath must be isolated

One of the convenient options for creating lighting is the LED strip for baths and saunas, which is made in such a way that all wiring is completely isolated, and numerous light bulbs are protected from external factors. As a result, even at very high humidity and temperature, the lighting will work perfectly.

Important! Using an LED strip near water sources is not dangerous, which cannot be said about conventional lamps.

A feature of lighting made from LED lamps is that there is a huge scope for creativity. You can create whole compositions from a flexible tape, and a variety of colors allows you to even better decorate each room in the bath. Manufacturers claim that their products are absolutely safe for use in rooms with high humidity and sudden temperature changes. Tapes with LEDs can be used in the steam room, and in the shower room, and in the room where the pool is located, and in the relaxation room.

LED lighting can be used even in the pool

The advantage of LED strips

A great difficulty in the construction of a bath is that it requires the use of special devices that can endure harsh operating conditions. If the equipment is not chosen correctly, the lighting will often have to be changed, as the lamps will quickly fail. But do not forget about safety. In the best case, the lamp will simply go out, in the worst case it may burst, and this is fraught with injury by small pieces of glass, and it can also shock a person. This is a very important point that must be taken into account when arranging rooms where high humidity is planned. Poor quality or improperly selected equipment can cause personal injury or even death.

With an LED strip in the bath, you can not be afraid that people who will rest in peace will be shocked. Such lighting devices are able to withstand any level of humidity. Even if the tape starts to be watered, nothing will happen to it. Given the high level of moisture resistance of the tape with LED elements, such a device is recommended even for creating pool lighting. But in order to use the lighting device underwater, you need to purchase a device with a special marking indicating a high level of water resistance.

LED lighting can be placed in the bath shelves
LED strip can be placed behind the shelves

The big plus of the LED strip is that it is not only moisture-resistant, but also heat-resistant, so the lighting will withstand very high temperatures. Moreover, heat-resistant tapes last for a very long time with minimal energy consumption.

Thanks to such equipment, you can create a unique interior in any room of the bath. This will make the rest more comfortable, and the time spent in the bath will be remembered for a long time.

Using the LED strip, you can diversify the interior of the steam room, create interesting effects, for example, by placing it behind the wooden wall panels

It should be noted! With low power consumption, the diode tapes in the bath give out a lot of light.

Rules for installing LED strip in the bath

Before you start working on the lighting of each room, you need to figure out which type of device is suitable in a particular case. For each room, tapes with a specific marking must be selected.

Almost all lighting devices of this type have a high level of moisture resistance. But if the tape is planned to be used underwater, you should opt for certain products that are designed specifically for such cases. As for the steam room, it is also worth choosing special equipment for this room. The thing is that ordinary LED strips work normally only at a temperature of -30 ... + 50 ° С. Higher or lower values can cause equipment failure.

For a bath, you should choose a heat-resistant LED strip

In the steam room, the temperature regime can reach +120 ° C, so you need a special heat-resistant LED strip for the bath, which will withstand work in such conditions. It costs a little more than usual, but its purchase will be profitable, since the lighting will not have to be constantly changed due to breakdowns.

Installation of the tape itself can occur on any part of the wall, ceiling or floor.

When installing equipment, it should be borne in mind that such lighting devices do not consume much energy, but require high-quality wiring, like any other lamps. Therefore, even at the construction stage of the bath, special attention should be paid to the issue of choosing an electric cable. Then it must be properly installed and insulated from moisture and high temperatures.

LED strip saves electricity

Experts recommend mounting heat-resistant tapes for baths and saunas so that the switches are located in other rooms. This will reduce the risk of electric shock. It is best if the switches are located in the rest room, where, as a rule, there is neither water nor excessively high temperatures.

Each lighting fixture requires a power supply. It is also recommended to place it away from temperature differences and moisture. It must be taken into account that one unit is enough to serve 5 m of LED strip. Most often, just such a skein comes with a power supply. It is not worth increasing the length of the tape, as this can damage the lighting device. There must be a cap at the end of each LED strip. Particular attention should be paid to those tapes that will be located in the washing room, steam room and in the pool. The slightest mistake can lead to serious injury and even tragedy.

By itself, installing a heat-resistant and moisture-resistant LED strip in a bath is not considered a difficult job. But it must be done efficiently and accurately so that the lighting fixture decorates the room, and does not cause trouble. Of all the types of devices that can be used to light a bath, a heat-resistant LED strip is considered one of the safest options. This is a good solution for bringing creative ideas to life.

Despite the fact that each bath, as a rule, has windows, there is not always enough light falling from them to take a steam bath with sufficient comfort. For example, if you decide to go to the bathhouse in the evening, when the sun has already set below the horizon or in gloomy weather, when the sky is covered with clouds. In addition, often windows are not installed in the steam room at all.

Steaming with insufficient lighting is not only inconvenient, but also unsafe. You can trip over a threshold, stumble on a step, bang your head in a low opening, or lean on a hot surface.

As you yourself understand, without light in the bath it will not be very convenient. Therefore, let's see what lamps are produced for baths and saunas, how to choose them correctly and what to look for in the store.

requirements for luminaires

Since the lamps will have to work in an environment with high temperature and humidity, special requirements are imposed on them. This is especially true of the class of moisture protection of the lighting device. You can't just hang any light bulb. It is imperative to make sure that the lamp is suitable for working in a bath or sauna.

All luminaires, in accordance with current regulations, are marked (IP), which indicates the resistance to dust and moisture.

The first digit in the marking can vary from 0 (no protection) to 6 (complete protection against dust ingress).

The second digit can have a value from 0 (no protection) to 8 (protection against moisture ingress when the luminaire is immersed in water).

For wet rooms, such as a bathroom, bath or sauna, it is recommended to purchase luminaires labeled at least IP44 (protection against drops and splashes). Even better, if you buy a lighting fixture with an IP65 rating, which guarantees complete protection against dust and water jets.

A table that contains all the degrees of IP protection will help you choose the right luminaire:

Degrees of protectionIP

No protection

Falling drops

Falling drops at an angle

Spray from all sides

Jets from all sides

Strong currents of water

Temporary dive

Full immersion

IP0x

No protection

IP1x

IP2x

IP3x

IP4x

Particles smaller than 1mm

IP5x

Dust partially

IP6x

Dust completely

In addition to moisture protection, the luminaire must have sufficient thermal stability to ensure reliable operation in the ambient temperature range from 20 to 130 degrees.

Luminaires with a ceramic housing showed themselves well in work, which is highly resistant to temperature extremes, and also reliably protects against contact with current-carrying contacts installed inside the cartridge.

Types of lamps for a bath

Despite the large number of commercially available lighting fixtures, not all of them are suitable for a bath or sauna.

For example, ordinary incandescent bulbs, which, although they are cheap, can be dangerous if they get wet, will not work. In this case, the lamp will simply burst, not only leaving you in the dark, but also scattering glass fragments around the room.

The best choice for lighting a bath will be LED lamps, fiber optic lamps, halogen lamps, as well as the usual fluorescent lamps.

Let's look at their pros and cons in more detail.

LED lights

In terms of price-quality ratio, it is difficult to find more economical and durable lamps comparable to LED ones in terms of their resource, luminous flux and the minimum voltage used for their operation.

When LED lamps first appeared on the market, many were put off by their high cost. Today, everything has changed and the price of LED lamps has already caught up, or even become lower, than the energy-saving fluorescent lamps we are used to.

The supply voltage of LED light sources is safe for humans, which allows them to be used in rooms where accidental contact with live parts is possible.

However, they also have one drawback - LEDs are not designed to work in rooms with high temperatures. Therefore, in the steam room they have to be placed closer to the floor, where the temperature is noticeably lower than in the rest of the room.

LED lighting allows you to embody many of the most daring design ideas. With their use, decorative lighting and adjustable lighting are easily implemented.

LED lamps, installed hidden behind various screens and spoilers, can add a touch of surrealism to the interior, and a wide choice of color palette of light sources makes them clear leaders in comparison with any other types of lamps.

How to make a homemade LED bath lamp, see this video:

Fluorescent lamps

Fluorescent lamps familiar to us are also installed quite often. Today it is one of the most popular types of light sources in the bath and sauna. Moreover, they can be connected through a dimmer, which provides the possibility of smooth regulation of the light flux created by fluorescent lamps.

fiber optic lighting

Another modern type of lighting fixtures are fiber optic lamps.

An optical fiber is an elastic bundle of glass or acrylic fibers in which the light generated by the projector is freely distributed.

Fiber optic lamps are not afraid of high temperature and humidity, and different lens shapes can create different lighting effects.

Laying fiber optics in special niches allows you to create amazing interior solutions using decorative lighting, and built into the ceiling, such lamps can create the effect of a starry sky:

Luminaires mounted at the end of a fiber optic cord are also widely used:

The design of the light-scattering element can be absolutely anything that suits the style of the interior design solution.

Bath halogen lamps

Halogen lamps are characterized by a high heating temperature during operation. Therefore, they can be used in rooms with high temperatures without fear that they will fail. The temperature inside the lamps themselves can reach up to 400 degrees.

Despite the low power consumption, halogen lamps have a high luminous flux generated, providing an excellent ratio of the cost of electricity consumed to the amount of light produced.

Despite the high degree of protection against possible splashes, often the lamps in the bath are installed behind a wooden fence that protects them from possible damage.

In this case, the luminous flux is directed to a reflective surface - a wall, ceiling or a piece of stainless steel, nailed to the wall specifically to reflect light from the lamp.

Often they put decorative lighting under the shelves, giving the room a very beautiful and unusual look.

If you are building a bathhouse, you will definitely encounter a controversial issue about its lighting. The windows in the steam room are either small or they don't exist at all. We will start the conversation with the question of the power supply of lamps, and end with LED lamps for baths and saunas.

Choosing voltage

In addition to comfort, relaxation and benefit, a bath is a difficult environment for electrical wiring and lighting fixtures.

The bath has high humidity and temperature. These are highly undesirable conditions for any electrical circuits. Water splashes are another hazard. How to avoid the risk of electric shock in such conditions?

To protect yourself and others, use heat-resistant cables for wiring in the bath. They usually come in a single-core form, so honor this fact when calculating. Ordinary cable near the stove may not withstand high temperatures.

According to the laying method, both options are possible - external and internal. Naturally, it is better to ensure maximum security and remoteness from people of any kind of wiring.

If you are using the outdoor installation method, use special porcelain insulators to isolate the cable from the wall.

Do not use cable corrugation, it will soon crumble due to temperature changes.

We exclude switches and sockets from the steam room. It is better to install them in a dressing room, or any other relatively cool and dry place. The input of electricity must be carried out through a residual current device (RCD).

What voltage to feed the electrical circuits in the sauna? Subject to all safety measures and advice on organizing power supply, 220V voltage can be used.

However, the abundance of options for damaging the integrity of the wiring make you think about using a low voltage of 12-24-36V. It is safer and will not incur additional costs. Electronic transformers and power supplies for 12V LEDs have recently fallen in price.

For example, a 10A power supply that can power 5 meters of a powerful LED strip in a sauna costs about $10-15!

What lamps can be used?

First of all, pay attention to the class of dust and moisture protection of the lamp, the higher it is, the better. The ideal option is that the security class is IP68.

The second thing you should pay attention to is the material from which the lamps are made. Such lamps are manufactured by Lindner, they are in great demand and are regularly used in saunas.

Their body is made of iron, ceramic and glass, which ensures resistance to high temperatures, and is ideal for a bath.

Mine lamps and lamps for housing and communal services of various variations are also great for a bath. They must be protected from moisture, equipped with sealing gaskets at the joints and not have plastic parts.

Here is an example of a great LED steam room light. In some cases, it is possible to mount spotlights in the floor or deck chairs.

Protected lamps for a bath do not look very aesthetically pleasing. Often they are covered with wooden lampshades or sewn up with a casing. In any of the described fixtures, you can install an LED lamp of the corresponding base.

Is it possible to use an LED lamp in a bath?

All LED lamps have a problem - overheating. High temperature (over 70 degrees) is the main enemy of LEDs.

To use LED sauna lights, install them behind the lower shelves or along the floor. Try to lower it as low as possible and take it away from the stove. If you plan to light the heater itself, use fiber optic lighting.

In the photo, the lamps are at the opposite end of the room from the heater and under the shelves, where the temperature is much lower.

You know that hot air rises and temperatures under the ceiling can reach lethal 100 degrees for LEDs. Such an arrangement to some extent will protect the LEDs from overheating, which (albeit with a stretch) will allow you to install LED lamps in the steam room.

Alternative LED lighting

Lamps with LED lamps in 99% of cases are not intended for the sauna. 1% are specialized lamps or individual solutions of professionals.

There are special solutions to help adapt them to work at elevated temperatures. For example, a heat-resistant LED strip for a bath. It is coated with a thick layer of protective silicone coating that is resistant to high temperatures.

Its appearance resembles a duralight cord. And the execution will allow you to realize the desired LED lighting of the bath. Working with it is similar to working with a regular tape.

Like the usual \, the LED strip for the steam room comes in various colors. Its advantage is the high values of the luminous flux.

In general, such an LED strip in a steam room works the same as a regular one at room temperature. Be careful when buying, the copy in the first picture has a supply voltage of 24 volts. Take care of the appropriate power supply.

Remember! When lighting a steam room, LEDs operate in extreme temperature conditions, and in some cases even beyond. You should not hope that they will develop the necessary resource in 30,000 - 50,000 hours.

However, high-quality branded lamps and ribbons can comfortably operate in this range. It is better to purchase specialized heat-resistant products. For a choice without errors - use the catalogs from manufacturers.

In general, lighting a sauna with LEDs makes sense if you power them from a low-voltage power supply. All LED strip power supplies are galvanically isolated and are safer than 220V LED strips and lamps.

Be aware of LED problems with high temperatures. If you do not want to regularly maintain, repair and replace LED installations, it is better to consider alternative lighting sources. Finnish engineers are actively promoting the method of bath lighting using fiber optics. This is a radically different way of lighting.

It was not for nothing that the expression “wash before dark” was used in Russia, since in conditions of high humidity it was not possible to install torches or candles, and the windows themselves were always small so that as much heat as possible was not wasted. Currently, the market for lamps in general and lighting for baths in particular is oversaturated with various models, even the most demanding taste will find a product to their liking here.

Peculiarities

There are certain features of conducting lighting and electricity in the bath, a lot depends on the safety of the devices, as well as on other conditions - room temperature and air humidity. To summarize, we can conclude that in the dressing room these parameters are approximately identical to the parameters of the atmosphere that prevails in a bathroom in an ordinary apartment.

If the bath is designed in such a way that enough steam enters the room in front of the steam room itself for it to accumulate or condensate, then during the wiring it is necessary to somehow mark this place on the diagram.

The peculiarity is that here only a model with a waterproof case is suitable for the effective operation of the lighting device.

The modern market has several universal wiring options for laying in rooms with high humidity, they have a specialized design. However, the price of such materials is quite high, which is not beneficial for those who build a small steam room for themselves and their families.

In this regard, there is an alternative solution to the problem based on the fact that the main point that you should pay attention to when wiring electricity, as mentioned earlier, is the temperature and humidity level in the room.

Previously, wiring in such conditions was laid in pre-prepared pipes, they were galvanized and completely covered with thermal insulation. You can use this method now, but the following conditions must also be met:

  • when laying pipes, it is necessary to make sure that they are above all containers and pipes with water;
  • there are hot elements in the room - stoves or other heating devices, it is necessary to lay electric lighting wires as far as possible from them;
  • if the wiring is ordinary in its properties, then before laying it through the pipe, it must be wrapped with a protective layer of fiberglass, the required thickness is about 2 mm.

We must not forget about the switches and sockets that we may need in the dressing room, it is better to install devices with a waterproof housing there.

But in no case should you mount contact and connecting devices in the steam room or in the room in front of it, they must be removed and installed outside - you can in the rest room or locker room.

Varieties

There is a wide range of lighting products on the market, but not every model is suitable for a bath, since not every lighting device can handle the difference in temperature and high humidity in the room.

There are several main types of bath lamps, among them are waterproof, heat-resistant, LED, moisture-resistant, low-voltage, wireless, and so on. Everything must be told in order:

Halogen lamps

The most resistant to high temperatures lamps - halogen. The power of such lamps ranges from 20 to 35 watts, the maximum heating for them will be 400 degrees. An important aspect is that the voltage used by the lamps is not dangerous for people, and their contacts are protected from moisture. In addition, halogen lamps have a pleasant appearance, it is possible to select shades of different colors.

LED lights

LED lamps are one of the most economical and environmentally friendly lighting options, however, it is better to place them as low as possible in the steam room, since they are rather difficult to tolerate heat and moisture. Such lamps are often used as a backlight, they can be placed behind the shelves, they can illuminate the room in various colors, since their spectrum is quite wide.

A room with LEDs will always be well lit, while such lamps do not consume a large amount of electricity.

Elongated tubular LEDs are usually placed on the ceiling, it must be borne in mind that there the concentration of steam and moisture will be maximum, such lamps must be resistant to the specified conditions.

When purchasing waterproof lamps for a bath, several aspects must be considered:

  1. On the box or frame of the lamp, you need to look at information about how high the degree of protection of this model from moisture is, for this there is a certain international classification; an IP value of 45 or higher will be acceptable.
  2. In addition to the fact that the lamps must be moisture-resistant, they must also be heat-resistant - in a steam room, the air temperature can range from 60 to 120 degrees and the lamp must be designed for such temperature fluctuations; well, for ceiling models, the standards are even higher, since they need to work at temperatures up to 300 degrees Celsius.

It is important that the fixtures are airtight, otherwise moisture or water can get inside the fixture and disrupt its operation. Good sealants are rubber and silicone.

fiber optic lamps

The best waterproof lamps can be called fiber optic lamps. When purchasing a fiber optic lighting device, you can be sure of its moisture resistance, even without paying attention to the protection factor. This is possible due to the specific properties of the material, it is able to pass through itself only light waves, but not electricity. Such lamps can also be used in water tanks and swimming pools.

Also, the advantage of these lamps will be a rather soft light, which will help create a cozy atmosphere and relax.

Just like LEDs, fiber optic lamps consume a fairly small amount of energy and have a long service life.

Models

When choosing different models of fixtures, you also need to start from where exactly it will be installed, temperature and humidity are also decisive factors that are based on when looking for a suitable option.

If the light needs to be carried out in the steam room, then, most importantly, do not install it in a potentially dangerous place - near the heating elements. A good option would be to place it on the ceiling or at the junction of walls.

Such placement is often underestimated, but in vain: the corner lamp will not only fit well into the interior, but will not interfere with people sitting in the steam room and touch their heads.

Models of horizontal fixtures at the junction of the ceiling and walls can also be called quite a suitable option. A decorative screen for a corner or horizontal type of fixtures can be purchased at a store or made by yourself, then you can additionally install an LED strip in the corner of the steam room, and fix it to the wall with a non-combustible material.

By itself, the LED strip will look very advantageous in the bath, besides, it is quite insensitive to high temperatures and does not require a lot of electricity to use.

If you want to be creative in decorating the rooms in the bath, then you can make some lighting elements with your own hands. However, it should be understood here that this is not about self-assembly of an electrical appliance, but rather about decorating an existing one by creating additional elements. The interior of the steam room is often dominated by wooden materials, so making a lattice or lampshade from wood will be a suitable stylistic solution.

Such wooden lampshades will not even have an aesthetic function, but rather protect wall lamps from damage and direct water ingress. In addition, with the help of a lattice, the lighting will be softer, diffused - it will become even more comfortable and pleasant to be in the room. You should not worry about the material for the manufacture of such decorative elements, it is quite possible to use the remains that were not thrown away after facing the walls or ceilings of the bath, this will also help maintain a single style concept.

However, if there is a desire to fill the steam room with aromas that promote relaxation and detachment from everyday problems, you can make an antique lampshade from larch or cedar, besides, these materials are also quite strong and durable.

In order to make a lampshade or grille on your own, you need to have elements for the frame and several small rails that will be fixed on top and bottom of the finished product. Of course, when making a lamp, there are certain points that you should pay attention to:

  • The size of the lamp itself will dictate the length of the rail for the lampshade, and there should not be any sharp corners, they must be sanded or rounded, this is necessary, in terms of safety, as well as to give a more aesthetic appearance to the product.
  • The shape and type of the lattice will differ depending on the size of the lamp itself, for example, if we need a frame for a wall lamp, then it should be made in the form of a semicircle or rectangle; the lattice for the corner lamp will be made in the form of a trapezoid.
  • It is best to fix such lamps on self-tapping screws, but, from the point of view of safety, they must be hidden inside so that they do not cause harm when heated.

When lighting other rooms in the bath, you can use lamps that are no longer with such strict characteristics; traditionally, the dressing room is decorated with a chandelier, which is located in the middle of the ceiling or several lamps that are installed directly into the ceiling itself.

Modern models of chandeliers and lamps, stylized antique or the chosen concept, will look harmonious, such lamps can literally become a bright accent in the interior of the room.

materials

There are various lamps on the market that can be installed in a sauna or bath, and if a model has already been selected, then you need to think about the material from which such a device will be made.

Increasing popularity of indoor lighting Himalayan salt. It is a material formed at the bottom of a dried-up lake about two hundred and fifty million years ago. Such salt is unique in that it contains more than 90 minerals, and when heated, it releases particles that have a beneficial effect on human health.

It is thanks to these properties of Himalayan salt that they began to use it in baths and saunas, and because of its high density, salt became a building material - bricks are made from it, used as a decorative element or as a steam generator.

Popular and Himalayan salt lamps, but often for baths it rather acts as an independent building element, the walls of such salt create the effect of the sea coast when the room is heated. Such vapors contribute to the prevention and treatment of bronchitis and even asthma, negative salt ions contribute to air disinfection.

Any products made from Himalayan salt emit ions, however, at certain temperatures - more than 60 degrees Celsius, the air will be more saturated with useful substances.

It is also necessary to comply with the conditions for the required humidity in the room - no more than 50%, since, otherwise, the salt will absorb water, and this will be ineffective.

It is for this reason that the use of Himalayan salt is more beneficial for a private bath, which is not designed for a large flow of visitors, in which the material cannot quickly become damp. Even in an ordinary Russian steam room, you need to thoroughly ventilate the room after each use, wait for the walls to dry so that the salt does not lose its properties.

In general, the shell from which the lamp is made is very important, as it has several main functions: protecting the light source from harmful effects, making the light softer by scattering it, which makes the steam room cozy. All these criteria are met by a lamp made of wood, it has undeniable advantages:

  • a wooden lamp will go well with the decor of the steam room, with walls and ceilings, as they are often also made of wood;
  • it is possible, by making such a lamp with your own hands, to endow it with an interesting shape, to perform with a beautiful ornament;
  • quite pleasant to the touch.

A ceramic lamp can also be installed in the recreation area, that is, its base will be made of this temperature-resistant material.

You can use glass to decorate bath lighting, but you should not place such lamps in the steam room itself - this is unsafe.

Accommodation options

As mentioned earlier, there are a fairly large number of different fixtures suitable for installation in baths and saunas. But each room has its own differences, respectively, and the lighting for them is selected according to the appropriate parameters:

in the steam room

In order to install the lamp in the steam room, you must first carefully approach its choice. The thing is that this, one might say, is the main room in the bath, it is saturated with steam, moisture and hot air. All these factors affect the selection of a lamp, not every model meets such characteristics. In addition, too bright and contrasting lighting also does not speak in favor of certain types of lamps; for the holy of holies, a bath needs soft light to help you relax.

Since the steam room has its own special microclimate, you can install a lamp in it only on the very top of the wall or at the joints - in the corners. This is due to the fact that the ceiling and walls are one of the coolest surfaces in the steam room, moreover, this location can be called convenient, the light streams from behind and does not strain the eyes of those who are relaxing in the bath. You can install fiber-optic lamps, then the lighting will definitely be soft and diffused, this will help you relax.

An important point is that such lamps have a high level of protection and are quite safe in rooms with high temperatures.

You can also choose LED lamps, they are heat-resistant, have several lighting modes and rich colors, you can easily save energy with them, and besides, LEDs have a long service life. But in any case, the lamps must be covered with a protective frame or a heat-resistant shade; also, to create an entourage and additional protection, you can cover the light with a beautifully designed wooden grate.

Inside the bath, if the lamps are mounted on the ceiling, they must withstand a temperature of 250 degrees, if on the wall, then less - at least 100 degrees Celsius.

Such lamps are made of heat-resistant material, ceramic or porcelain, the body is additionally strengthened, making it airtight.

In the washing

Unlike the steam room, in the washing room, on the contrary, it is necessary to hold a bright and powerful light, since this room is not intended for relaxation, it is necessary in order to wash after the steam room. It is for this purpose that the light in the sink is set to be contrasting and sharp, but it still should not hit the face of a person in the room.

But here you also need to be careful, this room has a source of moisture, you need to protect the lamps and wires from accidental contact with water. The switch should be located outside the washing room, in order to prevent water from entering there, for the same purpose, all lamps will have protective waterproof frames or shades.

In the dressing room

In the dressing room, lighting can be made practically anything, since the room does not have any special temperature drops and moisture concentrations. The classic option would be a chandelier in the center of the room or several lamps that are mounted on the ceiling. The light from such lamps is bright, but does not hurt the eyes and generally creates a fairly comfortable atmosphere in the room.

It is also possible to style the dressing room in a certain manner, then the lamps can be placed on the wall and made according to the general concept of the interior.

In the rest room

In the rest room, as well as in the dressing room, there is a certain humidity coefficient, so when installing lamps there, you need to be sure that they will have a protection class of at least 1. Lamps for such rooms are quite ordinary, from 75 to 100 watts , you can also install ordinary ceiling lamps or sconces.

For a sauna, in general, the same temperature difference is typical for lighting, it is worth paying attention to the classification of the international level of protection, make sure that the lamps are heat-resistant, heat-resistant and sealed.

Which lamp to choose and how to install?

Experts agree that in order to make lighting in the bath, you should not choose fluorescent lamps, as they are not resistant to high temperatures and humidity.

It is better to choose halogen or LED lamps, a fiber optic lamp is also suitable, but all this must be secured with a protective cover. In the dressing room, you can use two lamps at once with parallel inclusions of the light source to add brightness to the room lighting.

LED lighting in the sauna is unacceptable. You have probably heard such words on many thematic forums, and articles on this site also contain a similar statement. But it is not so.

LEDs can be used as lighting for a steam room or sauna, but subject to a number of restrictions. We will talk about them in our article. And at the same time we will discuss the specifics of the lighting network of the steam room as a whole.

First of all, let's see why it is impossible to use LEDs as such in a bath, and what are the limitations. At the same time, we note right away that LED lamps can be used almost without restrictions in washing rooms, recreation rooms, pools. Restrictions apply only to the couple.

The steam room is primarily temperature. In a good “dry” bath, the temperature can rise to 110⁰С, and some lovers of the steam business catch up with the temperature and a couple of tens of degrees higher.

For an ordinary LED lamp with operating temperature limits from minus 10 to plus 50-60⁰С, this is a clear overkill. If desired, you can look for LED lamps or tapes with a maximum operating temperature of up to 100⁰С. But you won't find it higher.

In addition, the steam room is humidity. It is not for nothing that this room, according to the norms of the PUE, is classified as especially wet. After all, especially in "wet" baths, the humidity level in the room can reach 100%. Not every lamp can withstand this.

At the same time, a simple LED lamp usually has an IP20 level, which tells us that it cannot even be brought close to such premises. Again, for the steam room, and for other rooms in the bath, you should look for lamps with a higher level of dust, but most importantly moisture protection.

Note! The abbreviation IP stands for the level of protection against dust and moisture. The first digit indicates the level of protection against dust, and the second against moisture. The higher the number, the higher the protection. For dust protection, there are numbers from 0 to 6. For moisture protection, numbers from 0 to 9 are used.

How to make lighting a steam room?

And now, let's figure out how to make LED bath lighting yourself - and so that it not only lasts a long time, but also pleases the eye. To do this, let's first analyze the requirements for the lighting of the steam room, and only then consider the various options for lighting schemes.

Steam room lighting requirements

Of course, let's start with the requirements. After all, based on them, we will make a choice of lighting options. And depending on the option used, we can see their technical advantages.

  • Let's start with the general lighting in the steam room. According to SNiP 05/23/2010, the minimum illumination in this room should be 75 lux. Is it a lot or a little? Let's count.
  • Let's say we have a steam room 3 × 3 - that is, an area of 9m2. For this room, we will need lamps with a luminous flux of at least 9 × 75 = 675lm. This roughly corresponds to the luminous flux of a 60W incandescent lamp, and if it is LED sauna lighting, a 10W lamp will suffice.

  • In addition to the luminous flux, special requirements are imposed on the luminaire itself. Since our steam room belongs to especially wet rooms, the lamp must have a protection class of at least IP

  • In addition, the lamp must be matte. This will eliminate its blinding effect, and help illuminate the steamed room.
  • Now, as for the wiring. According to the norms of the PUE, the lighting voltage in the steam room should be 12V. Therefore, you will need to install a 220/12V transformer. Moreover, it should be located in an adjacent dry room. The same rule applies to the switch, which is forbidden to be located inside the steam room.
