DIY scent diffuser can be made very quickly and with the help of tools! Making your own DIY reed diffuser is much easier than you might think, and today I'll show you how to make the best diffuser oil I've come across! Like many of my homemade gifts, once you've gathered your ingredients and equipment, it won't take more than 10 minutes to create this beauty.

When I welcome people into my home, I'm always asked how to make reed diffusers, which I use as they make the house smell amazing. But get it, they are always shocked at how easy it is! I do this regularly to keep my house smelling amazing, and unlike some store-bought options, these are free of preservatives and potentially harmful chemicals.

Quick Tip: They make great homemade gifts! And I know that from time to time I buy a few bought stores. When those expenses are spent, I keep the bottle and fill it with my own diffuser oil rather than buying a new one. Be sure to change the reed first and clean out the container though.

Do-it-yourself flavoring equipment:

  • 10-15 rattan sticks (should stick out the top of your chosen container 3-5cm)
  • 1 decorative glass container
  • Glass beaker (for mixing)

Comment A: I'm constantly buying rattan ingredients from my local stores and they're the perfect place to hunt for your glass container for your diffuser!
They absolutely must be made of glass when using essential oils. if you have big house or you can't get enough of your chosen flavor, just get a bigger container and double the ingredients and the amount of cane (make sure those canes are long enough though). I used to use a perfume bottle, but I also used an old whiskey bottle!

Liquid Flavoring Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup Fractionated Coconut Oil
  • 20 ml Aroma oil
  • 1 teaspoon alcohol

Important Notes on Air Freshener:

Fractionated coconut oil is a liquid and is the best choice for base oil. Solid coconut oil is not a suitable alternative, however I have used sunflower oil which works well and is readily available at your grocery store. Just use a thin and light colored oil.
Thicker oils won't carry your reed fragrance to air, and darker oils can be terribly unsightly in a glass diffuser (although the color is your preference).
For more information on carrier oils, see our organic carrier information page.

How to make your own diffuser:

Step 1.

Pour fractionated coconut or other carrier oil into a glass beaker.

Step 2

Add your aromatic oils and alcohol, then stir.

Step 3

Drain into your chosen glass container.

Step4.

Add sticks and spread them out so that they lie evenly on the rim.

How to use a diffuser

That's it, you did it! I move the reeds from time to time and turn them at least twice a week to keep the flavor strong. Put a diffuser in the bathroom, bedroom, and anywhere you can have company hanging around so everyone will say, "Damn, your house smells amazing, my house is inferior to yours," to their envy and your joy!

If you're creating more than one homemade reed diffuser, add a splash of variety by using different scent oil blends per diffuser. I do it so that each room is unique, with its own irresistible scent and inviting atmosphere. For example. lavender in the bedroom always fills me with a drowsy, heavy head that instantly puts me to sleep.

How to make a fragrance to give as a gift

Like I said, a DIY reed diffuser can make a great gift without spending too much! Just gather all your ingredients and equipment, but with the addition of a glass bottle.

Once I've made the oil with the diffuser, I use the glass bottle to store the oil as part of a kit that also includes a reed and container. Your gift should simply contain the bottles in a decorative glass container and add reeds. Everything looks beautiful in a box on a bed of shredded, colored napkins.

Be creative! Put some tape on the rim or base of the container to give it that wow factor! Your mom, friend or someone special someone will like it.

How to make it with different ingredients for the best flavor

I prefer using aromatic oils over essential oils for this recipe. I could go on and on about how amazing I think essential oils are, but they can be a bit pricey. This recipe calls for 20 ml, which will be quite a lot of essential oils. Scented oils can be used in a variety of homemade skin care products and perfumes, and as long as you're using beauty oil for beauty products, you won't be including any nasty chemicals.

Plus, you can get hundreds various kinds fragrance oils, and I think the hardest part of using them is deciding which one! You can get the smell like food like blueberry or fudge buns or some that mimic the scent of essential oils or your favorite perfume/cologne. Of course, they are not as pure and do not have the same properties of essential oils, but for a powerful reed diffuser they are perfect!

When making your own DIY reed oil diffuser, you can even combine fragrance oils. Keep in mind the power of your oils - some oils are stronger than others, so try to balance the sump. Take a look at my home perfume page, it gives a few useful tips on how to combine fragrance or essential oils for that perfect scent.

How to make food flavoring at home

Simple ways to prepare flavorings for baking, salads, various dishes.

At home, the possibilities for obtaining an aromatic substance are somewhat limited. However, there are several simple ways obtaining flavors without leaving home and without purchasing additional utensils and ingredients.

Extracts are of several types:

  • Liquid.
  • Dense (in their composition of moisture up to 25%).
  • Dry.

To extract the aroma component from raw materials plant origin water and ethyl alcohol are used (it is also allowed to use acids, alkali, glycerin, etc. in the technology). Having obtained the extract, it is defended for at least 48 hours at a temperature of up to 10 ° C to obtain a transparent liquid. The liquid is then passed through a filter. Thick extracts require additional steps: precipitation with alcohol, the use of scavengers, boiling with filtration. After that, the purified extracts are brought to a thick state by evaporation under vacuum.

Aromas play an important role in the general home atmosphere. An apartment filled with unobtrusive pleasant smells becomes more comfortable. It is pleasant to return to it after a hard day, and on the weekend you can completely relax and get a therapeutic psychological relaxation. There are many flavoring agents on the market, but not all of them are completely harmless and ideal in composition. The article will talk about how to make an air freshener from essential oils with your own hands.

What are the benefits?

In addition to the fact that you can be the creator of your favorite fragrance by being creative and making it unique, homemade flavoring has other important advantages.

  • Naturalness and harmlessness. You can choose the components yourself, taking into account the health characteristics of your family members. And, of course, you do not have to add synthetic substances and chemicals. And if someone from your loved ones is allergic to certain natural essential substances, you simply will not add these components to your home fragrance.

  • Many who try to make familiar household appliances with their own hands have noticed that in the end it turns out to save a lot of money, because manufacturers include their risks, transportation costs and so on in the price. And if you have mastered the flavoring manufacturing algorithm, you just need to purchase the necessary components. In this case, you do not overpay for packaging and a lot of unnecessary elements in the composition of aerosols and other artificial fresheners.

  • Made from high-quality natural essential oils, the fragrance will not emit an unnecessarily pungent odor. Substances are often added to store aerosols that artificially enhance the activity of odorous particles. As a result, the smell becomes strong and unnatural. But the light, pleasant fragrance of a home-made refreshing device will not be so annoying at all, but, on the contrary, will create a cozy atmosphere.

A little about flavors

It has long been proven that various essential oils not only decorate the air with their aroma - they also affect the psyche, general health person.

In addition, jasmine improves sleep, drives away insomnia and anxiety, and soothes during prolonged stress. In a house where this fragrance is present, relationships are established and harmony prevails.

And it is not without reason that this seasoning is used to prepare many dishes: cinnamon has a positive effect on emotional condition, raises vitality. Cinnamon oil brings cosiness to the general atmosphere of the apartment. There is a feeling of constant celebration and high spirits.

How and from what to do?

Having decided on the choice of flavor, you can start making homemade device for aromatization of the apartment. However, you can use your fragrance not only for rooms. There is nothing to stop you from freshening the air in your car with it, or using it to give a pleasant fragrance to bed linen and other favorite things.

Aroma diffuser

To make this simple, air-freshening device, you need to prepare a spray bottle and a small plastic bottle with screw neck. It is even better if you can find glass bottles or bottles with a neck suitable for screwing on the atomizer.

So, in the selected container you need to pour 150–200 ml of cooled boiled water. You can also use purified distilled water. Then add about 10 drops of the selected essential oil there. In the future, you can adjust the amount of essential components depending on personal feelings.

If you have chosen a composition of aromas, drip 2-3 drops of each oil. The main thing - do not overdo it!

The atomizer for aromatization of air is ready. It is advisable to shake it before use.

Gelatin Flavoring

To create and maintain a pleasant smell in the room, you can use a kind of "jelly" that will constantly emit a fragrance for several days.

Gelatin should be taken in the amount of 2 tbsp. spoons, pour it with a glass of warm water, stir and heat over low heat until completely dissolved. For a more beautiful visual effect, you can add food coloring to the water, then the frozen gel-like mass will have a certain color.

In a container with warmed gelatin, add the selected oil. Enough 10-15 drops. So that the composition does not dry out too quickly, it is worth adding 1 teaspoon of glycerin.

After allowing to cool slightly, pour the resulting mass into a transparent glass jar with a wide neck. For the best decorative effect you can add beautiful pebbles, shells, flower petals and other decorations there.

A beautiful flavor made from natural ingredients is ready.

soda air freshener

It is very easy to make a flavor based on simple baking soda, which, perhaps, every housewife can find in the kitchen. The powder must be poured into a small container. It can be a jar or a plastic container, as long as the top of the dish is wide.

One or more essential oils are added to soda. You can mix the whole mass a little with a stick so that the esters are better distributed.

Then the soda container must be closed with thick paper or foil, securing them with a tight elastic band. In the "lid" it is necessary to make several holes with a toothpick, an awl or a thick needle.

Such a composition not only distributes fragrance for a long time, but is also able to absorb unpleasant odors from the outside. Therefore, this version of the freshener is well suited for use in the bathroom or in the kitchen.

Home fragrance based on water and alcohol

This recipe is a slightly enhanced version of the water-based fragrance diffuser described just above. Alcohol contains a lot of volatile particles, which will help the ethers to spread better in the room.

As in the previous case, you will need a small container and a spray bottle. In 1 glass of water, add 2 tbsp. spoons of vodka or 1 tbsp. a spoonful of pure 90% alcohol. There should also be poured 10-15 drops of essential oil. After shaking, a pleasant smell can be sprayed around the room.

fragrant sticks

A very long playing freshener, for the manufacture of which you will need wooden skewers or other thin sticks.

You will also need a small bottle, always with a narrow neck. There you need to pour about 100 grams of the so-called base oil, that is, odorless. In everyday life, the first thing that comes to mind from the most affordable is refined sunflower.

2 tbsp is also added to the oil container. spoons of vodka and 5-10 drops of the selected aromatic ether. Close the neck and shake the bottle several times to mix the ingredients.

Flavors are a useful thing! With their help, you can add a pleasant scent to your closet, bedroom, car interior, personal use for spa treatments and much more.

Another question is which flavors do you prefer - synthetic or natural?

The answer seems obvious - of course, it is best to use natural flavors, which are not difficult to make with your own hands using essential oils.

Pour one glass of boiled water into a container (basin, bowl, saucepan, etc.), add 10 drops of the selected ether and mix well.

Molds, you can choose any you like, you can use empty cream jars, etc.

We remove the blanks for a day to dry. After the time has elapsed, remove the “smell” from the molds and enjoy the aroma.

To add variety, you can use food coloring and then you get colored flavors. To do this, simply mix the dye (on the tip of a knife) with baking soda before adding water.

If you are worried that the baking soda will start to crumble and lose its shape, place the flavoring in a fabric bag, which you can decorate in any way you like and color. Such a fragrance will decorate the car panel and give a wonderful aroma!

In the same way, you can decorate the room using decorative vases that you can fill with colorful flavors.

To make scented candles, you will need:

Now we start preparing the mass for the future candle. We take a pot of water, boil it. In the meantime, put paraffin or wax (of your choice) into another (smaller) container and melt it in a water bath.

When the paraffin has melted, add a few drops of essential oil. The number of drops will determine the intensity of the fragrance. From 3-5 drops of oil there will be a light unobtrusive aroma. From 5-10 drops you get a persistent aroma that will fill the room. Therefore, you need to adjust at your discretion and preferences.

Now that everything is ready, you need to carefully pour the wax into a candle container. You need to act quickly. First, fill in a quarter of the container and check that the thread does not float, but remains inside.

Then add the remaining wax (paraffin). Carefully cut the thread at the top (form a wick).
